Brief History of Hummus

Hummus is the Arabic word for chickpea.

This thick and delicious spread, made from cooked and smashed chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, and salt, is a great source of dietary fiber, vitamin B and protein too!

Now here’s a fun fact: Hummus is also rumored to be an aphrodisiac. Ohh baby! Because hummus has been around for so long, the exact origin has been lost.

What we know for sure is that chickpeas have been cultivated throughout the Middle East and India for thousands of years.

Chickpeas not only packed with protein, fiber, and folic acid but also have historically been ground and used as a coffee replacement.

Hummus is a popular dish in the Middle East, North Africa, and the Mediterranean but we wonder: have they added pumpkin and weed?
