How Do I Cook Tofu?
If you’ve never cooked with tofu before it can seem a little strange or intimidating at first.
Despite its bleak appearance, it can be a powerhouse of flavour when done properly, and that’s what we’ll do today.
The Key To Crispy Tofu
The secret to crispy tofu is to remove even more water from the brick or block of tofu by pressing it between two clean tea towels.
This helps to absorb the moisture that tofu naturally produces, and if there’s too much it doesn’t crisp up.
Using Nutritional Yeast
This recipe calls for nutritional yeast, and much like the name, it’s actually very nutritious.
I’ve used it on popcorn and in cashew ‘cheese’ sauces – it’s yummy!
It’s a plant-based product that has a cheesy flavour and trust me, I’ve been a cheese snob for years, but this actually tastes pretty darn good.
High in B12 and a ton of other vitamins, order it at your local natural foods store or online.
How Do I Infuse Tofu With Weed?
The first step with any kind of weed edible that you want to make at home is to decarb. Here are the steps:
Decarboxylation
Create Cannabis-Infused Oil
Ranch Dressing
Decarbed Cannabis Flower
Decarbing your weed isn’t just something fancy, experience Cannabis Chef’s do for fun… well, maybe they do BUT they also know it’s necessary for achieving proper edibles.
Before you continue, please make sure you know how to decarb your weed, and that you don’t skip this step (ever!)
How To Decarb:
How To Make Cannabis-Infused Oil
We need to make cannabis oil so after you’ve decarbed, it’s time to make some oil.
Store it in a dry, dark place and you can keep it for weeks!
Preheat the oven to 350° F. Line two baking sheets with foil and set aside.
Drain the excess water from the tofu package and slice the block of tofu lengthwise into ¼ inch slabs. ( little rectangles)
Cut the slabs into bite sized pieces like squares or triangles.
Use a clean tea towel and set your Cannadish cookbook or something heavy on top of the towel to squeeze the water out of the tofu. Let it sit there for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix together the wet ingredients: cannabis oil, soy sauce, and garlic in a small bowl.
Next, In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, nutritional yeast, pepper, and salt.
After 15 minutes remove the weight from tofu, and brush both sides of the tofu with the oil mixture. Pre heat the oven to 350 F.
Transfer the tofu to the large bowl with the dry ingredients and toss until all pieces are well coated. Place them all on the aluminum foil-lined baking sheets in an even layer or in rows.
Gently coat all pieces evenly with a light mist of cooking spray. This will help them get crispier.
Bake for 20-30 minutes, flipping once and spraying again with cooking spray halfway through, so both sides get crispy. Don't let them burn!
